How to Elope in Sedona

OH BABY! So you think you might want to elope in Sedona, the most magical place on earth! Well, let me be your guide because I might just be Sedona's number one fan. In this elopement guide, I am going to review some great location options, permit information, and how to do the dang thing and get MARRIED!

So let's begin with the basics: WHEN & WHERE?

What Time of Year?

Location Recommendations

Arizona has such a large range of climates and ecosystems. You might be like me before I moved here and think that AZ is alllll desert and like a million degrees. This couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, there are actually 5 climate zones in AZ. Sedona is higher in elevation and Phoenix and can actually get some snow a couple times a year!

So when is the best time to plan your Sedona elopement? I would recommend Fall, Winter, and Spring. Summers are still rather hot here and can get up to the 100's on some days. It is also busy with everyone visiting while on summer break. If you want to elope in the summer, a great option would be getting up at sunrise. It's generally cooler and less crowded! Winters can be cold here and even snow (Nov-Feb) but the day is usually not too cold. It can be less busy and a great time to visit and elope!

The spring and fall seasons are the best for weather. They can be a bit more crowded but going on weekdays or at sunrise can help keep your elopement as intimate and private as you want. However, as your photographer, I know quite a few places off the beaten path that will lead us to those majestic views without all the crowds. I would recommend

As a Sedona elopement photographer and local enthusiast, I’ve explored the red rocks extensively and have curated a list of the best secluded Sedona elopement locations. While iconic spots like Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock are popular for a reason, they can be crowded—especially during peak seasons. These locations often require a shuttle and can make your elopement feel less private and allow for less flexibility. If your heart is set on one of these famous landmarks, I highly recommend planning your elopement at sunrise or during the off-season. This is the best way to avoid crowds and create a more intimate, peaceful experience for your ceremony or photo session.

But here’s the secret: there are hidden Sedona elopement spots that are just as stunning—some even with epic views of Cathedral Rock and Chapel Rock—without the foot traffic. These lesser-known Sedona locations offer a quiet, breathtaking backdrop for your vows and allow you to fully connect with the landscape. As your photographer, I provide a personalized location guide featuring exclusive, handpicked spots I’ve scouted specifically for adventurous couples. These hidden gems ensure you’ll have both beautiful scenery and a sense of privacy—perfect for a meaningful, stress-free Sedona elopement. Whether you want dramatic cliffs, desert vistas, or red rock backdrops without the crowds, I’ll help you find the perfect spot for your special day.
