How to Prepare for Your Couples Photoshoot

Trust me, I get it, it can be hard to feel natural when someone is pointing a camera at you. It's instinct to turn and smile. While those photos are great, they don't let me capture much of your personality. When it comes to documenting your love, I aim to capture all the raw and genuine moments shared between you and your partner. Capturing the essence of your relationship through photography is such a beautiful and memorable experience that should be fun! Whether you're celebrating an engagement, an anniversary, or simply want to document your love, preparation is key to ensuring your couples photoshoot goes smoothly. Here are some essential tips on outfits, locations, and mindset to help you get the most out of your session with me.

 1. Choosing the Right Outfits

Your outfits play a crucial role in the overall feel of your photos. Here are some tips to help you select the perfect attire:
- Coordinate, Don’t Match: Choose colors that complement each other rather than identical outfits. Soft pastels or earthy tones often work well together. Wearing clothes that fit your style allow you to add more personality into your photos!

- Dress for Comfort: You want to feel at ease during the shoot. Opt for outfits that allow you to move freely and feel confident. Wear what you feel most confident in, that is truly what photographs best!

- Accessorize Thoughtfully: Accessories can add personality to your photos. Consider hats, scarves, or statement jewelry, but avoid anything too distracting. Think about if you want your Apple watch in the photos or if you should take it off prior.

- Plan for Layers: Layers can add depth to your photos and allow for quick outfit changes. A jacket or hat can provide a different look without a complete change.

 2. Selecting the Perfect Location

The right location can elevate your photos, so consider these tips when choosing which location you would like to shoot at:

- Reflect Your Story: Pick a location that has meaning for both of you, whether it’s where you had your first date, a favorite park, or a bucket-list destination for you both.

- Consider Time of Day: Lighting is crucial for photography. The golden hour—shortly after sunrise or before sunset—offers the softest, most flattering light.

- Be Mindful of Crowds: Popular spots can be busy, so consider timing your shoot during less crowded hours to capture intimate moments without distractions.

3. Cultivating the Right Mindset

Feeling relaxed and in love is essential for capturing authentic moments. Here are some ways to prepare mentally for your shoot:

- Communicate with Me: Share your vision, preferences, and any specific shots you’d like. Open communication can help ease nerves. The more we get to know each other the more comfortable you are in front of the camera.

- Let Go of Perfection: Remember that the goal is to capture your relationship, not achieve a flawless image. Embrace the candid moments and imperfections—they often tell the best stories.

- Focus on Each Other: During the shoot, concentrate on one another rather than the camera. Engage in conversation, share laughter, and enjoy the experience together. I am merely here to document your relationship, not a curated set of poses.

- Stay Positive and Have Fun: Approach the shoot with a playful attitude. The more fun you have, the more genuine your smiles and laughter will be.

Preparing for your couples photoshoot doesn’t have to be stressful. In fact, this should be a fun experience that you get to do together!  Embrace the moment, be yourselves, and trust me to capture your unique love story.
